Monochrome seems to be becoming a bit of a habit. Currently in the thick of sleep regression and teething, and I’m clearly using every style trick I have to pull together an outfit while bleary-eyed and tired each morning.
Wearing Sezane t-shirt; Acne Studios trousers (black version here and I love this more affordable pair); Sam Edelman loafers (also here); & Other Stories cardigan; Chanel vintage classic flap; Oscar Wylee sunglasses; Timeless Pearly earrings; Mejuri necklace; Rosefield watch
You may recall that a pair of grey wool flannel trousers were on my 2019 wishlist. In fact it was these exact grey wool flannel trousers from Acne Studios. But at the time I was putting together my A/W wardrobe, they felt a little out of my budget, so I decided to shop around for a less expensive pair. I ended up with some from Country Road, which I loved, but ultimately a few months on, realised were just a *little* on the short side for me.
After continuing to check back in on the Acne pair, I managed to score them for 50% off during the end of season sales (Matches is always my favourite for this). Safe to say it was a bit of a gamble – size wise – as I was heavily pregnant at the time.
What I like about these, aside from the thick, weighty wool flannel fabric, is the silhouette. It’s different for me. I usually opt for skinny or tapered styles, whereas these are a straighter fit through the leg, with quite a wide opening at the ankle.
For their first proper outing, I went with a simple combo in a dual colour scheme, grey and black. Matching your accessories is an effortless way to tie in together those final pieces of your outfit, but I went one step further by wearing a “third” piece – a cardigan from & Other Stories – in the same black hue.
I don’t tend to go for such gamine looks, but I really liked how this outfit came together. In this instance, worn with loafers; but for a slightly feminine take, they also look fab with a pair of pointed toe flats.
